There are some days where I just feel accomplished.
Even being midway through, today feels like one.
Chores for the most part are done.
(Who am I kidding--there's always something TO do).
Meals are planned.
Grocery shopping is done.
Food prep is almost done.
I've taken a shower and look somewhat presentable.
Boy is napping.
And I'm blogging. Early. Again this week:o)
Other good things about today...
Sun IS shining.
It's quiet in my house.
It's only 2:00.
I can see our grass outside.
My celery plant is really growing.
Veggie stock on the stove smells good.
This week is March:o)
For this moment,
I feel relaxed.
Stress-free.
And happy.
And I'm going with it!
(Because honestly, most days I fret over the million things that need to be done. And worry about getting them done. What mom doesn't?!?!)
Top 10 for the Week:
February 17th, 2014
10. Sickness Here Still. Mal started last Saturday with a runny nose...which developed into a tiny cough. Well, know Clay & I have it. And just this morning Jay said he's feeling he's got it as well. Tired, stuffy head & nose. Not too big of a deal. But just annoying.
9. Dentist. Went to the dentist this week and took Sir Clayton. He was SO good. Never made a peep but I guess it helped he had my phone to entertain him. It seems the back pack of toys/snacks I took him just wasn't good enough. Phones!
8. Cooking Motivation. I'm not sure if it's the sun shining, getting into a workout routine, or I'm finally over the cooking hump. But I'm finally getting back into cooking. Tried a new recipe last week that was great! And I'm trying two more this week...with plans for next week too! Do you ever just get into a rut?!?! I was there--for months. I swear.
7. Tools. Used my tool bag twice this week. SO there Jay! You laughed when I wanted one for Xmas and I use it every week! And I know you do too!:o)
6. Working Out. I started a new plan a few weeks ago, and I'm SO extremely happy to report I've stuck with it. And I'm seeing a difference. I see muscle people--in my legs and shoulders! And I've lost a total of 8 pounds. I'm so pumped! Definite motivation to keep going! Let the toning for summer begin! Or shall I say continue! Come on spring! Forgot to mention that one day this week I had a later morning workout. Which meant the kids were around. During the workout I also had a poopy diaper to change, a cat scratch, and numerous other big "kid" problems. Oh the joys of being a mom.
5. Groceries ALONE. Last week and this week I went to the grocery store ALONE. It is such bliss. True bliss. NO rushing. NO we-can't-get-that. NO dragging kids down aisles. NO chasing kids down aisles. I appreciate this immensely. And I have to give a shout out to our local Family Fare. I've been SO pleased with their fresh produce and organics. At this time, Meijer is just TOO far for me to drive. But I've been really happy with what I can get here--even if it's a little pricier. It's worth it for us! And SO convenient! (They also donated $20 for Mal's Preschool Easter Basket Raffle:o))
4. Conference. Mal had her spring conference this past week. It's still so strange for me to be on the OTHER side of the table. But I love hearing how well she's doing. This year has been HUGE for her. I've seen her grow tremendously! However, she needs to slow down a bit:o) Which I can totally see. Now that she knows the drill, she seems to be speeding through to be the first one done. She was SO shy to hear things about herself. She gets so embarrassed. I think I was kinda like that when I was her age. Right mom?!?!
3. Clayisms. He's obsessed with HOME. He just LOVES being home. And he makes sure to tell me this when we are away or even when we ARE home. It's hilarious. Just now, as I was putting him down for a nap, he must have repeated 10-15 times HOME. Like, "Mom, I'm so excited we are HOME." Yeah buddy, me too. I love home just as much as you do. Clay had a recheck for his eye this week. From last year--his eye has actually improved! We are SO pleased with this. He doesn't have to go back for another 2 years. However, his lazy left eye is a permanent thing. But luckily, he will grow into it, so it won't be as obvious. It was quite interesting keeping a 2 year old entertained for 1 1/2 hours while we waited in a small room. Clayton continues to be ALL boy. We enjoyed the warmer temperatures this week (like 49 one day!! Woohoo!) and played outside quite a bit. With the warmer temperatures, bring more puddles. I'm totally okay with the kids playing in them but NOT drinking them. Yup. That's Clay. How he could even possible think that would be good??? I'm not sure. Will he ever learn???
2. Malloryisms. 100 is big. And in Mal's eyes it's HUGE. She's been obsessing over it lately. 100 minutes. 100 days. 100 grapes. You name it, it's 100. We are still working on counting up that high. She's really close! She's also been obsessing over playing Duck, Duck, Goose. Jay, the kids and I played it a few times this week. It's hilarious to watch. Mal just wants to be it ALL the time. Clay just runs around in circles and says Duck. And Jay just wants to be DONE. I enjoy watching it all. And she's still requesting Christmas music. January was fine. February was rough. But I really don't want to go into March STILL listening to Christmas music.
A few sayings this week:
"What do you know about Washington and Lincoln?" After Monday, President's Day at school. The way she pronounces Abraham is hilarious. I was shocked she remembered.
"We did Jack and Jill's in Gym class." Jumping Jacks.
"Mom was kinda mean today." Referring to the third late night for me without Jay. She was telling Jay this and I overheard her. Well, yeah, no kidding. Sometimes I just need a little break from the littles. LOVE them. But sometimes a break helps. A ton.
1. Sunday Recharge. Slept in, went to the grocery store by myself, had some quiet time to myself. Getting ready for the boy to wake up and for Mal & Jay to get home. No big plans for the rest of the day....but I'm excited to just be with our little family. And did I mention the SUN is shining!
Blessings to you all!
March is HERE!
Spring is around the corner!
(Have you noticed the days getting longer?!?!)
Enjoy your week!
Until next week,
Mrs. Newell

Top 10
Top 10 for the Week:
February 10th, 2014
10. Winter Blues. We've had enough of the snow. Really. I mean the warmer temperatures are MUCH more manageable. We can at least go out and get some fresh air. Which we do on a regular basis. But this SNOW has really got to go. I'm tired of it!
9. Sniffles. Our kids are starting a cold. Not cool. Day 2 of runny noses. First cold of the season.
8. Naptime Crazy. I really struggled one day to get the kids down for a nap (Mal really only rests but will nap on a RARE occasion). It went on for nearly an hour, but I was not giving up. I knew he desperately needed one. A lot of leading him back into bed, a little yelling (patience was warn), and lots of trying to get things just right--and he finally fell asleep! I told Mal to hang out in her room until I was through with him. And low and behold--she fell asleep herself! Both slept about 1 1/2 hours! I was shocked! But it was a nice little break:o)
7. Grocery Store Madness. As a family, we shopped. Crazy. Totally craziness. And we are doing it again today (pray for us). BUT I love the fact that when I look down into our cart I see mostly produce. Before, I would see boxes, plastic bags, cans, and other processed foods. We have changed our eating habits drastically in the last year. And I am proud of where we are now. It makes a difference. A HUGE difference.
6. Valentine's Day Party. Everyone once and awhile something will remind me of how our life was before I became a SAHM. Friday was one. IF I was working, I would not have been able to attend Miss Mallory's Valentine's Day party. See her smile, get excited over ice cream sundaes, and enjoy her friends. Makes me SO glad about our decision. And thankful for this time I now have with my kids.
5. Chiro. It had been 8 weeks--TWO months--since I had been. Between my headaches, arm, just not feeling right, and back pain, I was SO ecstatic to finally get in and get adjusted! Everything is back to normal and makes me realize how much I DO need this in my life.
4. Valentine's Day Out. Our babysitter was busy on the actual Valentine's Day so Jay and I headed out to dinner on Saturday. A great dinner at Wood Fire. Delicious food! Casino afterwards was a dud. But we enjoyed ourselves. AND we didn't have to put the kids to bed! Which is a HUGE perk!
3. Clayisms. Mr. Goofy. And friendly. Seriously. I watch as Jay continues to laugh at him. And I try and warn him that if he laughs, he'll continue to do funny stuff. The kids makes putting on his snow pants and boots a riot! How does that happen?!?! He is obsessed with our phones and Ipads right now. I will catch him on one on beds, in the play room, or other little places. Hiding. He also loves baths and refuses to get out of them. I have to walk away, with the water gone, and the lights off, and wait for him to finally come out--with his towel and clothes. A lover of toys in his bed when he's sleeping. Books on him when he finally passes out. A cuddler when he wakes up from his naps or in the morning. Almost always a smile on his face--an all around happy kid.
2. Malloryisms. Oh Mal. It was quite the week of sayings! Here we go:
*"The roof of my mouth tickles." (She's discovered if you touch the top of your mouth, it tickles).
*"You're my favorite friend." (Referring to me! Yes! Can you believe that?!?!).
*"Is it okay if I twinkle my toes?" (She meant to say wiggle...lying with me on the couch).
* "Just keep doing and doing it until you get it right." (Buckling herself in her booster. Good words to motivate!)
*"Can she see us?" (Referring to Chalean in my workout video as we worked out together! Ha!)
*"Was Daddy in your class when you met him?" (Ummmm...NO!)
*"He had sparkly eyes when he met you." (Really?!?!)
*"When are we going to leave? The car can't drive itself." (She wasn't saying it in a smart way. But really?!?!)
*"You are the one that planned all this stuff." (As I was telling them how hectic of a day we had).
She definitely is keeping me on my toes and it really surprises me the things that come out of her mouth. I was proud of her on Friday. After we got home from her Valentine's Day party, she shared some of her candy with Clay without even hesitating.
1. Exercise. I FINALLY have gotten on board with working out! I'm on a workout team you could say. But it's working! I worked out 6 days this past week! I also started tracking my calorie intake. I'm down 7 pounds already! But I'm sure my Crystal getaway helped in putting on the pounds before my start:o) Either way, I'm feeling MUCH better. And am noticing a difference!
Kids are up! We are heading to the store! Wish us luck!
Enjoy your week!
It's suppose to be 40! Woohoo!
Until next week,

Top 10 for the Week:
February 3rd, 2014
10. ER Visit. So, I've been experiencing some muscle weakness in my left arm. I would say it's been going on for the last 3 weeks or so. Well, the last week I've been having headaches. And on Saturday night, I had a HORRIBLE one that would not go away. With the combination of the two symptoms and the advice from a few people, I decided to go in. Stroke test, CT done, and they found nothing. What I learned: 1) I need my chiropractor. (8 weeks is TOO long to not see him). 2) NO coffee for me. For awhile. If ever. (this makes me really sad). 3) Checking things out IS okay--it relieves your anxiety. MUCH better this week.
9. Major Blowout. History was made in the Newell Household. Luckily, it happened while Jay was home from lunch:o) Went in to check on Sir Clayton in the play room and he had pooped. A lot. It was on the rug, floor, up his back, down his leg. Pretty much everywhere! In fact, we chose to cut his shirt it was SO bad. Jay wanted to throw his pants away but they were my favorite jeans for him. It was BAD. Oh Clayton--WHEN will you learn to use the potty?!?!?!
8. Ammunition on Floor. It's everywhere. Little pieces of Barbie, figurines, even just the legs of a chair. I find them and stub my toe, step on them, whatever--constantly.
7. Car Seat Troubles. On our way up to drop the kids off to my parents, Clay's car seat broke. When he pulled forward, the lock would not hold so the straps went forward with him. Not wanting to chance anything and after Jay's inspection, we bought a new one (which also happens to be one that was recalled). Kinda crazy that the same week, that very car seat would be recalled but for something different! Finally got ahold of Graco. They are sending us a full refund for the old one and a new strap for the new one we just bought!
6. Driving with Kids. Crazy. Not fun. Enough said.
5. Playing School. Mal's really been into playing school lately. I'm realizing more and more how much she is like me. She even has "that" teacher voice. And she understands the reward system. I was given lots of stickers for my "good behavior." Cracks me up. Clay, he needs a little help;o)
4. Massage! On our weekend away, I had a massage. It had been since I was pregnant with Clayton, which also equals WAY too long! It was awesome. Must do it again SOON.
3. Clayisms. Still not feeling the greatest this week. Sleeping early and laying low--not complaining. Kinda nice to have him low key and not in FULL blast mode all the time. His speech is coming along and he's trying harder and harder every day.
2. Malloryisms. She still continues to amaze me how much compassion and love she has for her little brother. She took it upon herself one morning to work with him on his words. One of my teacher friends gave her a worksheet that had different pictures on it (I think she was suppose to pick the one item that doesn't belong). She decided that this worksheet would be great for helping Clay learn how to say a few words. I watched as they both sprawled out floor and looked at this sheet. Mal would say the word first and then encourage him to say it. He would say it and Mal would beam and shout with pride. Melts a Mommas heart.
A few of her sayings this week:
*"Steady on the roads mom." (She is already a backseat driver).
*"I would never do that to my kids." (I wish I would have written down what she was referring to, because I don't remember now. But I will be tucking this away in my memory bank to use in our future.)
1. Crystal Mountain Getaway. SO great to get away with Jay and my SIL and BIL. We enjoyed dining, relaxing, drinking, talking, cards, massage. It was bliss. Thanks to my mom who manned the kids all by herself!
Well, onto another week folks!
Take care!

Opening Closed Doors
I have random dreams about someone from my past.
She will all of a sudden just pop up with NO reason.
In my dreams...
Maybe I'm shopping.
Or having dinner with friends.
And she's there. We're chatting. Everything is normal.
And then I wake up.
Confused.
I'm confused due to the fact that
We haven't talked or seen each other
In almost four years.
I defriended on Facebook.
And in my life.
And it was mostly my decision.
We were best friends for a long time.
And then one day,
Things just changed.
Or maybe, I changed.
I no longer felt compatible with her anymore.
No longer positive about our relationship.
It was a constant negativity that I truly did not need in my life.
It's so strange for me to explain.
And sometimes I feel like this is totally against who I am--
How could I just cut someone out of my life?
I still am perplexed at how it all went down.
And wonder if there is any way we could still be friends.
But I think the damage is/was done.
Things were said.
And from my point of view,
There are still mixed emotions about our relationship.
But that doesn't mean I don't think of her.
Or dream about her.
Or wonder how she is.
It's amazing how covered pockets of your life,
Just all of a sudden pop up.
Even though you don't want to remember them.
They still appear.
Full force.
And make you question.
I hope to someday have answers to what happened.
And hopefully someday open a door, I closed years ago.
Because maybe my dreams would go away.
And maybe my mind would have some peace.
And my heart wouldn't feel so broken.
Top 10 for the Week:
January 27th, 2014
10. Snow Day with Jay. Due to ANOTHER storm coming in, Jay had another unexpected snow day with us! On this day, we decided to do some much needed filing. It was horrible. Kids were cranky, annoyed, bored. I'm all for random projects that need to be done...but it's truly hard on the kids when we don't have set things for them to do. And I think being inside a lot takes a toll on them (who wouldn't feel this way??). But we accomplished something. Which is good. Right?!?!
9. SAHM. I am amazed at all I do in one day. Seriously. There were several days this week where the kids and I were stuck indoors because it was too cold out. And Jay took his Explorer (the van is truly not safe for me on these country roads--looks like we will have a new vehicle by next winter! So long automatic doors:o(). The kids get as bored as I do. The things that I think we will play for hours, we play for 10 minutes tops. And the things I think we will play for 5 minutes we play for hours. I don't get it. But I will tell you this--we played WAY too much zebra (a game made up by the kids and me). One day in the life of the Newells: played train, danced, made Valentines, bounced, water colors, marble run, played with cars, hide and seek.
8. Outdoor Fun. As I type this, the kids and Jay are outside, at it again. ME...I'm tired of it. We spent several hours in it yesterday sledding, throwing snowballs, building forts, taking pics, yeah the whole snow thing. And quite frankly, I'm tired of it. The kids and Jay still love it. I'm glad. I would rather be in here blogging or crocheting. Or even cleaning! Seriously. Snow go away. Heard the groundhog saw his shadow. Yep, not impressed. Or surprised.
7. Just US. We didn't really have plans for this past weekend. In fact, we had NO plans. Not even for Super Bowl. Which was nice. It's nice to have weekends where you can JUST be us. Went shopping, played some board games, watched movies, played outside. It was nice. And makes me appreciate our little family. And the positive comments/thoughts to Mal are STILL working. I swear by this! The more I compliment her on things (how nice she's acting to her brother, how thoughtful it is to pick up a certain toy), the better mood she's in and the more I catch her doing nice things!
6. Ladies Night. Thursday night was Ladies Night for our Relay for Life team. 7 or so vendors at a bar. Was so much fun getting out and seeing people for a good cause. Lots of laughs.
5. Bowling. Mal was suppose to go bowling this week with her class. But due to school closing, they cancelled. A group of us from school went anyways. I was worried about taking Mr. Clayton. You can imagine why, right? Well, Mal was a great big sister and helped me out--BIG time. Both of them scored in the 70's. And had a lot of fun. Next time we will have to go with Daddy so he can show them how it's done!
4. My Stuff. I'm been Martha Stewart lately. The 11,000 Pinterest projects I've pinned, I've actually started doing! Finished making the kids' Valentine mailboxes, which turned out cute! They've enjoyed pulling little gifts and hearts out of them each day. I also made the button heart art. It was so easy and is adorable! We started regrowing celery from a leftover piece of celery. Kids are loving it! And I have to admit, I am too! Mal even commented about our crafting addiction. "Mom and me--we're crafting friends" to Jay and I in the car. Jay laughed, I beamed. I told him to just wait and see how he felt when Clay comments about how they are hunting buddies. It's an amazing feeling when you can share something you LOVE with your own child. Can't wait to craft with her some more:o)
3. Clayisms. Taught Clay how to count to three. Usually it's just TWO. Cause he LOVES the number two. But this week, I focused on using close-to-sounds (that makes sense?). Instead of one, two three--we say un, two, tree. It works. And he's so proud of himself. He's also getting a few colors--definitely BLUE and green. He's a whiz on the Ipad. Better than I could ever imagine. He matches colors, shapes, letters. It's amazing to me how quickly this skill comes at such a young age. I have to be pretty sneaky about hiding my Ipad. Otherwise he'd be on it all the time. He was a bit down and out this week. Slept a lot and had a little big of tummy issues. But no fever or other sickness. It was so strange when he actually went directly to bed. So unlike him. Hoping he feels better this week.
2. Malloryisms. Oh Miss Mallory. A few first things this week: Bowling (first for Clay too) & a word search (she picked it out and bought it with her own money--she was great doing it! Her letters are really coming along!). She also counted to 35 (skipping 20)--totally on her own as we were reading a book together.
Cute sayings this week:
"I'm not leaving without him." (Talking about Sir Clayton when we were outside. Such a great big sister).
"Dig IN!" (After being outside in the afternoon, I let the kids come in and eat right out of the ice cream container. JUST before dinner. They both thought it was the best thing ever! So easily amused.)
"Salt and Pepper are friends. They are similar because they are both toppings and are in the same container." (Love her vocabulary. Love her thinking. Love her.)
We also played two different imaginary games thought up by her. The first was Adventure Time--which I'm sure was influenced by Wild Kratts (she loves that show). She packed bags with flashlights, water, and other "tools" to help us capture creatures. Clay loved this as well. We ran away from the "lion" AKA Tipper the dog. Then there was her performance game. She was the director, me the student/subject of course. She directed me to turn, move a certain way when we listened to her favorite CD Frozen. It was hilarious watching her give me a look and then raise her hand in one direction or the other. Then I was able to watch her do her own number. Most precious thing ever. She was enthralled with the music and enjoyed the spotlight while Clay played with her Barbie horses in her closet:o)
1. ONE Year GF. Last week marked a year for me. Best thing I've done in a long time. And I continue to try and get others on board with me. What you're tired? Achy? Sick all the time? There are TOO many people out there who are suffering and I believe a GF lifestyle can cure so many of these aliments. More and more restaurants and food companies are getting on board with this idea. It's amazing to me how much better I feel. My next step is to truly start working out. The missing piece to my healthy lifestyle.
I'm early! For once!
Hope you all enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday!
We are playing it low key!
Which is perfect.
Have a great week!!
Until next week,
Mrs. Newell
Love her.)

Top 10
Top 10 for the week:
January 20th, 2014
10. Weather. This cold, crappy weather is really starting to get to me. If it was only a bit warmer, the kids and I could actually go out and enjoy just being OUT of the house. Unfortunately, I feel like there has been NO break in this terrible weather. I have never remembered a winter like this before. I'm done already.
9. I LOVE 5. Period. Five is a big difference from four. She's starting to act like a school age girl. Seriously. Her thoughts, actions, sayings remind me of someone older. I'm enjoying our conversations and exploring our world together. Five is my favorite age yet!
8. Snow Days! Love them. Seriously. I know people rather grown about having them. Snow days for me mean not having to go out in this crummy weather, being able to relax, and get caught up on things without feeling like I'm running around all the time.
7. Lawton Play Group. Tried out a new play group this week--why not get out?!?!? Kids really enjoyed it. In fact, Mal overhead me talk to someone about going and I had totally forgotten about it. Well, SHE reminded me the day before (I'm not kidding--she has a better memory than ME!) and asked if we could go. Clay loved dancing, singing, doing the craft, and listening to books. I have a feeling this will be our regular Tuesday thing. Excited.
6. Friend Visit. A few friends happened to be going to the same play group. We had a family over afterwards. It was so much fun. So nice to finally be seeing friends and enjoying company. The kids played really well and I enjoyed holding onto a newborn:o)
5. Craft Time. I've been crafting a few nights this past week. It's been bliss. Now that I have my little area all set up downstairs...I'm enjoying the QUIET, cozy, all organized area. Now, IF I could just keep Mal away from all MY stuff. She can't help herself.
4. Thursday Night Out. I usually get a "night out" each week to run errands or do whatever I'd like. Unfortunately, due to the weather and crazy holiday season, my nights out have been rare. This past Thursday I was able to run a few errands (got some awesome sale deals!) and meet up with my SIL for an appetizer and drink. It was SO nice to sit down, chat, and catch up on everything with her. As we were heading home, the 2nd storm was coming in! UGH.
3. Clayisms. I am SO sad to say that Clayton is growing out of his naps. The boy does not stop. Ever. And I really appreciate an hour or so of quiet time. Even if Mal talks my ear off during this whole hour. Anyways, it's been getting really hard to put him down at night. Like 10:00 and he's still awake. So, I've had several people suggest to me to stop giving him naps. NO! And so I've listened. Several days this past week, we called him "No Nap Clay." It was a bit brutal for me during the day--I still made him have "quiet time"--but BOY was it easy to put him down at night. Like as we are reading books to him, he passes out. Which NEVER happens. Mal was 4 1/2 when she stopped taking naps (like 6 months ago), Clay's 2 1/2. So different. He's so much more active than her, you would think that he'd be tired. But I feel like his mind just doesn't rest. Ever. In fact, he even has rather funny tactics to prolong the sleep process. This week he faked a cough to get water and come out. He's faked a poop, gone to the fridge for a snack, and brought out MANY toys and books (some ripped) JUST to get out of sleep. SMart kid I tell ya.
2. Malloryisms. She starts kindergarten next year. I am SO not ready for this. I've really enjoyed the every other day thing. A day with me, a day at school, a day with me, and so on. It's nice for her to have her own time away and it's nice for Clay to get some alone time. BUT I'm not ready for her to be gone FULL time. I dread this. And I can't imagine how they will deal with this as well. They are seriously connected to the hip. She is SUCH a great big sister to him. It makes me SO proud. However, she did ask on the way to school one morning when Clay was screaming at the top of his lungs, if she could have another brother. And she wasn't asking for another one, cause I asked. She told me she wanted to have a different one. It was cute. And after listening to the statements she's made this week, I'm shocked she even said this (stay tuned for next week!). A few other sayings: "Mom, Dad wanted me to distract you so that he could put the cookie dough in the cart." Freaking hilarious! Jay acted all innocent--like it was her idea. "No time for exploring, Tipper." As Tip was enjoying her freedom out and about. Mal was ready to head inside and be home. She makes me laugh.
1. Staycation Bliss. We were suppose to head up north with two other couples this past weekend. But due to the weather, decided to stay at our house (4 full/queen beds + 3 couples = enough room!). It was so strange being home with friends and without the kids. But it was awesome! We were able to catch up with dear friends, eat great food, play games, drink, and sleep in--in the comforts of our own home AND without driving! It's amazing to me how a few days away with the kids rejuvenates me and then makes me crave my kids:o) I was ready to have them back. But glad to have the time away with great friends.
Well, I'm late.
And I'll be writing in a few days.
The snow can go away any time now.
Have a great weekend and Super Bowl!
Until next week,
