Top 10

Top 10 for the week:

10.  FORTS.  Who doesn't love a good fort?  Well, we had a few in our house this week.  The weather was finicky--off and on rain for a few days.  So, we made a few forts in our living room.  And then I had this genius idea while changing sheets to make their closets a BIG fort with one sheet.  Mal's is still up and it's a nice little getaway place for her.  She was interested in sleeping in it the other night.  Both of us agreed to let her, but she got scared and ended up sleeping in her bed:o)

9.  BUGS & Animals.  Our kids are obsessed.  OBSESSED with bugs.  We've had several fireflies in the house this week, along with a couple flies.  They are more interested in them, than anything.  Oh except for the frogs--which we've found a dozen or so this week (Clay ended up playing too hard with one of his and it didn't make it).  They point out any bug, animal, or living thing in and out of our house.  It stops them in their tracks and they are entranced.  Wish they would behave this well on car rides!!  I love that they are not afraid of them and are willing to observe.

8.  Cooler Temps.  Strange cooler temps make me think of Fall and the Fourth is this week!  Crazy!

7.  Clay's 1st Movie.  He's much younger than Mal was when she went to her first movie...but I really wanted to take Mal and Jay was golfing.  So Clay got the opportunity to watch his first movie.  He was into the movie for about the first 15 minute or so.  Between the popcorn game my friend was playing with him, the many treats, and the videos/pictures on my phone, he made it through the 1 hour and 45 minute movie.  Epic was adorable--about a little people world that lives in the forest. I would love to see it again...without the distraction of Clay:o)  Mal really enjoyed it too.  In fact, she took a lot away from it.  On the way home--out of nowhere--she chimes in that God is really big and we are really small.  In my head, I'm thinking holy cow!! She's totally comparing this to the movie we just watched!!  I was like, "Oh yes, that's true."  She responds back a few minutes later,  "Just like in the movie we watched tonight."  She amazes me.

6.  Baby Sage.  Early this week, we had a chance to meet my friend's new baby, Sage.  He is such a tiny, cute, sweet boy.  Kids adored him.  So much, they were fighting over holding him.  It was sweet to see the motherly side in Mal come out.  She was quite taken with him--in helping with him and making him comfortable.  It's crazy to think that she was that size at one time.  Mal can't wait to see him again:o)  (However, I'm a bit nervous to do car rides again with them!! They are NOT fans of the car and any time in it--is really rough.  Let's just say that Momma was glad when Clay fell asleep on the way home.  A little bit of peace and quiet).

5.  Shopping Kidless.  Had a babysitter this week so I could do some shopping.  The mall and grocery store are SO much better without kids.  I'm just disappointed that nothing opens up until 9:30-10:00ish on a weekday!!  I was there by 9:00 with some time to pass!!  Glad I had a book to read.

4.  Girl's Night Out.  Met a few lovely ladies out for a drink and catalog party.  We enjoyed a few drinks, laughter, and just being ourselves.  I had so much fun!  And look forward to another night out soon.

3.  Malloryisms.  She informed me this week that Daddy's car smells like vinegar.  It was hilarious. Mal's really been into dancing lately.  Any music, any costume, with her ballet shoes.  I love watching her move and her facial expressions.  You can tell that she takes joy in doing it.  I hope this continues.  She's been wanting her Daddy to read her books before bed, and I have to admit it breaks my heart a little.  I know she loves her Daddy time...but I feel like that's my time with her to kinda make things good (not like they are bad EVERY day, but you know some days), to kinda slow things down, chat with her.  I still go in later for "cuddle" time--AKA back scratch time.  But then again this week during Clay's nap time, we've been doing a few things together--playing games, cleaning something, reading, or just hanging out together.  I enjoy this time with just her.  So maybe that's why she wants Daddy at night:o)  I'll just keep telling myself that.

2.  Clayisms.  OH CLAY!  Oh BOY!  That's all I can say.  This week, he drew all over himself with an orange marker (his legs and arms).  To the point that I'm actually impressed.  His lines were pretty straight.  He does things that make me surprised, worried, and nervous.  Is this normal??  He's been obsessed with his wooden train.  Saying "choo choo" all around the house while pulling it along.  He also loves his cars and even lined them up in a long line in the playroom.  During nap time, I rocked him to sleep twice this week.  His whole body took up my lap and both arms of the chairs.  I loved every second of it.  Loved the smell of him.  How close he was and how this busy little 2 year old fell asleep in my arms.  Love you Clayton.

1.  No Weekend Plan Bliss.  We had NO plans this weekend.  Which was unusual.  But SO nice.  We did a lot together as a family.  And spent a lot of time outside.  Friday night the kids watched as Jay and I unloaded the trailer of wood (which was HUGE).  I had a little encounter with a chipmunk at the last two pieces of wood.  Needless to say it scared the sh-- out of me!  Then we went for ice cream.  Saturday I painted the hutch Jay got me for my birthday and it turned out AWESOME!! I love it and am even considering painting out kitchen cabinets the color!!  We also picked blackberries in our backyard and trimmed up the areas they are in so we can get to them better.  Went for a ride on the prowler on Jay's grandpa's property--and got severely rained on (our clothes were drenched).  But enjoyed the ride and laughed hysterically--even the kids!!  And to end it we had a nice boat ride and dinner at Jay's parents.  Overall a slow but appreciated weekend.

Which leads me to...the FOURTH this week!
SO excited.
To be in Decatur...and then to Ludington for the weekend!

Hope you all have a great week and Fourth!
Hope to see you.

Until next week,
Mrs. Newell
